MONDAY INSPIRATIONS: “When I run alone I go through my ‘thankful’ list” — Kelley Garcia

R4W: How long have you been running and what got you into it?
Kelley: I started running in 2006.  I was a bodybuilder and discovered running on accident.  I was getting ready for a competition when someone told me how many calories I could burn running.  I found a beginning running program outlined in the EAS magazine. Once I started I couldn’t stop.  I fell in love with running and never looked back.

R4W: How do you stay motivated when you don’t want to run?
Kelley: I always schedule runs with people so I can’t back out.  I use Meetup.com.

R4W: What animal would best describe your running form?
Kelley: HA HA!!  My running form is probably closest to a camel (at least that is how it feels).

R4W: What has been the funniest thing that has happened to you preparing for, during, or after a run?
Kelley: I can only pick one?  I love dressing up for runs.  Themed runs are my favorite.  I have flesh-colored leggins that allow for lots of freedom.  I ran the Day of the Tread marathon with tassels and a bush (see attached pic).  The course was a clover leaf so the runners got to see each other several times.  One gentleman told me he couldn’t look because he felt like he had to apologize to his wife.

R4W: What do you think about when you’re alone on your run?
Kelley: When I run alone I go through my “thankful” list. Each mile is devoted to one thing I’m thankful for.  Those thoughts keep me smiling and I never seem to run out of them.
