Who’s not ready for 2020 to be over? What a year! Here’s an update on what we are doing to prepare to open registration. Because of the pandemic we have all endured this year, the permitting process has become more tedious and tentative. We plan on holding the Christmas in July Races on July 24th and 25th, 2021. One big change is that we are planning on starting the events on SATURDAY (not Friday night as in previous years). We are awaiting approvals from the Village of Lisle and the Lisle Park District. Approval from the School District has been received (part of the races are run on their property). We are also preparing to make any necessary adjustments to our aid station management and starting procedures that may be mandated due to COVID-19. We do not know what the status of the pandemic will be next July so we are making preparations assuming the guidelines will be the same as they are now (“Prepare for the worst, hope for the best.”) Once we have all permitting approvals, registration will be opened, however, we do not know when that will be. We appreciate your patience and look forward to putting on another first-class, festive event in 2021! Ho, ho, ho!

The 6/12/24-Hour races will take runners on a 1.56637KM (or 0.9732971994 mile) USATF certified paved loop course around a lake in Lisle Community Park, Lisle, IL that is well-marked and well-decorated. Runners will travel in the clockwise direction with enough variation to not need to switch directions during the race. The course will be mostly flat with some elevation change near the stage and natural amphitheater.
The 5K runners will start at the Lisle High School parking lot and run a small stretch of road until they hit a paved running trail which they will take on their journey in and around Lisle Community Park. Runners will share the same section of trail for the last part of the 5K loop until they reach the school again.
July weather in the Chicagoland area can bring us anything from cool to hot and humid to thunderstorms. We've had all these conditions at the event in past years. We advise you to Check the Local Weather and pack appropriately. BRING SUNSCREEN.
Note: We will begin the race promptly rain or shine, but it is up to the discretion of the race directors in coordination with the local authorities to determine if the running conditions become unsafe and the race be temporarily halted or terminated.
Packet Pickup/Pre-Race Check-In
  • You may optionally pick up race packets on the Wednesday and Thursday the week before the event during regular store business hours at Dick Pond in Lisle (Everything you need for race will be provided - No race day check-in required). PLEASE REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR TIMING CHIP AND BIB TO THE RACE. If you forget you will not get to run as we cannot issue you another bib/timing chip, NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • Race registrations allowed (excludes relay teams) at the pre-race packet pickup (CASH ONLY). Credit Card registrations allowed only for race day registrations.
  • NOTE: We will accommodate those of you who want to have a friend pick up your race packet for you. Your friend will be required to initial the fact that they are picking up for you. IMPORTANT, if you have an unsigned waiver you will need to personally sign it; We will not hand over your race bib unless the waiver is signed by you personally. You will get everything else but you will need check-in on race day to get your race bib upon signing the waiver.
  • If you choose NOT to pick up your race packet at Dick Pond by Thursday before the event, you will need to obtain everything on race day at the race's registration table.
  • ALL RUNNERS must have a signed waiver before the start of their respective race. We will have copies of waivers to sign at race check-in. Please check your email inbox for emails related to unsigned waivers.
  • Minors under 18 years of age, including those running the fun run, must have a parent or guardian sign a waiver on their behalf.
  • If you failed to sign the online waiver at the time of registration, you will be required to sign the waiver at the time you pick up your race packet/goodie bag, whether it be at Dick Pond or race day check-in (this includes relay team members who had their team captain register them for the event).

* Relay Team Captain Registration - Team captain will create a team name and pay for entire team (You work out collecting payments from team members). If YOU, the team captain, register all of your team members when you register yourself, each team member will still need to sign a waiver at packet pickup, therefore, we strongly suggest that you only register yourself; Then you can give each team member the name of your team and the password and they can register themselves.

* Relay Team Member Registration - Team captain has already paid your registration fee. You must know your team name and password to register. When you register you should ignore the BILLING information and just "Submit" to complete the process.

NOTE: Online registration closes on the Friday before the race at Midnight (July 17th). Registration will be available after online registration closes at Dick Pond Athletics during packet-pickup and race day as long as the field limit has not been reached.

Transfers and Deferrals

  • Transfer Policy - Until June 30th, you will be allowed to transfer from one race to another or to transfer your registration to someone else. Cost: $10 plus the difference in price for the race you originally registered for and the new race you are transferring to. We do not offer refunds if the race you initially registered for is more expensive than the race you are transferring to. If a race has reached capacity, no transfers into that race will be permitted. Runners can log into Race Roster to facilitate the transfer. IMPORTANT: This must be done online and we will not process this for you if you mess up somehow. Also, the person you are transferring to will not get your discounted rate (they will be charged the rate at the time they are registering). This seems to be a common misnomer, please review the FAQ for additional information.
  • "No Sweat" Deferral Policy - Deferral Fees: 5K ($10); Timed Solo ($30); 6-Hour Timed Relay ($50); 12-Hour Timed Relay ($75); 24-Hour Timed Relay ($100). At anytime up to June 30, 2020 you can defer your race entry to next year only. Deferrals shall forfeit any race swag for current year. We will not accept deferral requests after June 30, 2020. NO EXCEPTIONS! Just contact the race directors by June 30, 2020 to defer your entry to next year. When you're ready to register the next year, we will provide you a personal registration code that you can use, which will be in the amount you registered for the previous year minus the deferral fee. Send an email to info@runners4wellness.com if you are requesting to defer along with your confirmation you received from this registration website. We will confirm with you and you should be okay.

Course Descriptions
NOTE: All courses are USATF Certified

5K Course

The 5K loop starts at the NW section of the Lisle High School parking lot on the east side of the school. Runners will run around the median and south out of the parking lot and turn right onto Short Street. You'll make a left turn on Ohio Court, another left on Ohio Street, then follow that around towards the right until you reach Yackley Avenue where you'll make a left turn onto the sidewalk and then a quick left onto the running path. You will continue on this path and reach the 5K aid station between two softball fields. You may wish to enjoy a snack followed by some liquid refreshment and then continue around until you find a bridge that cross the Easy Branch DuPage River. (WATCH OUT and don't miss it) You will make a right-hand turn onto this bridge, but watch out for oncoming "faster" runners, maybe offer a high-five, and be on your way. Once you cross the bridge, you'll want to turn right and follow the path around the softball and soccer fields and eventually head north. You'll want to be extra careful crossing the parking following the signs and rounding about the northern side of it and coming back to the bridge where you will want to make a right turn, again, giving high-fives to those "slower" runners. Give some words of encouragement and make another right turn onto the path and continue up towards Short Street. Be sure to follow the signs and not cut the corners as we direct you across Short Street where police will be present directing traffic. Thank the officers, and continue on the "decorated" portion of the course and follow this around to the backside of the Lisle High School until you reach Short Street once again. Sprint it in at this point since you only have a little over 1/10th of a mile left where you'll finish strong and be awarded with an awesome medal. The course will be well marked with signs directing you.

6/12/24-Hour Course

The "1 mile" loop is actually 0.9732971994 miles (or 1.56637 KM), so get in a groove. The course will be mostly flat with some elevation change near the stage and natural amphitheater. Watch out for signs that might be for 5K runners only, but if you follow the lights/luminaries that will outline the "1-mile" loop, in addition to the numerous signs we'll have out there, then you should NEVER get lost. Watch out for pedestrian cross traffic near the start/finish line as it might get a bit more congested. We will have signs posted, but wanted to make you aware of this. We think that you'll quickly figure out everything once you get a few loops in.
Caution to timed event runners - You may find pedestrian traffic walking the path taking in the scenery of the holiday decorations, so please let them know you're approaching if they don't suspect you.
Use the following lap to mileage conversion chart to assist you with your goals.

Road Closures

Friday Night

Short Street will be CLOSED TO ALL TRAFFIC from 7:45 PM (15 minutes before race start) until the 5K race ends at approximately 9:00 PM. No cars will be permitted to enter or exit the parking lots on Short Street. NO EXCEPTIONS!
TIP: 24-Hour runners should probably try to get to the park by 7:45 PM if they can to avoid street closure issues.

6/12/24-Hour Runners

You and your crew are free to park in the high school parking lot to the north and west of the high school. If the lot is full please use one of the parking lots south of Short Street near the baseball fields. Refer to the Race-Day Registration information above
Gear/Drop Bags
Timed Runs
  • 6/12/24-HOUR runners can place their drop bags under one of the DROP BAG canopies near the Start/Finish line
  • All bags should be clearly marked with name, race, and bib number
  • The park has permitted us to allow runners to bring their own canopy or camping tents, chairs, and coolers starting Friday afternoon. Feel free to decorate your tent and line it up next to the trail. In fact, decorating your tent is encouraged!!! We typically have about 80 campers, give or take 🙂 No camping Saturday evening.
  • If you have a table, chair, and cooler that you're bringing please consider bringing a tent for yourself, as well. We have limited space in our covered drop bag area and would like to reserve that area for those who have a lighter load. We won't kick you out or anything, but please be considerate of your surroundings. Maybe there will be plenty of room, it's hard to say given that we are allowing people to bring their own tents.
  • We are not responsible for any lost or stolen items
  • If you forget your drop bag, come back to get them by Sunday 12 PM; otherwise, they may be discarded.
  • REQUIRED: Bring your own cup/bottle, as we are now a cupless race! Bring a headlamp for the race. We don't know your comfort levels with running in darkness. Even though the path will be lit with luminaries and trees will have Christmas lights in some of them, it's still dark. It's not perfect lighting for seeing anything that might be an obstruction or bad footing for you. Keep in mind that you will be running through the night, so common sense should play a factor here. You can always just leave your headlamp in your drop bag after a couple loops if you're okay with it.
5K Race
  • You may place your belongings near the starting line
  • All bags should be clearly marked with name, race, and bib number
  • We are not responsible for any lost or stolen items
  • If you forget your belongings, you may come back to get them by Sunday 12 PM; otherwise, they may be discarded.

Starting Corrals

  • 5K Runners - Start is on the WEST side of the parking lot in FRONT OF THE HIGH SCHOOL. Also, STROLLERS and DOGS are allowed to run in the 5K!
  • 6/12/24-Hour Runners – Start is on the EAST side of the parking lot in FRONT OF THE HIGH SCHOOL. Be aware that once these events start that you take caution at the starting line as the runners are passing by. We will want to ensure that we leave room so the runners can get through and take aid as necessary.
Course Running Direction
6/12/24-HOUR Races – These races are run on a 1.56637KM (or 0.9732971994 mile) USATF certified loop course. We will run these events in the clockwise direction. There is enough variation that runners will not switch directions during the race.

Race Timing

Our event is USATF sanctioned and will follow guidelines for determining results; however, there will be official chip timing for all races except the Santa Claus Fun Run. It is your responsibility to make sure you are wearing your timing chip at all times.
For distance races, your disposable timing chip will be attached to the back side of your race bib. It is important to not crease, or fold the the timing chip to ensure your finish time is read.
For the timed events, you will be issued a reusable chip that should be attached to your ankle with Velcro strips. These timing chips and ankle straps must be returned to us at the completion of your race. If you forget to return it to us at by the end of weekend of events, you will be charged a $35 fee for replacement. We will have a TV monitor that displays your laps as you cross the timing mat.  Make sure you hear a beep as you cross the timing mat and verify your name shows on the monitor. Loops completed without the timing chip will not be counted by the timing system; therefore, they will not count towards your final results. NO EXCEPTIONS!
Timing chips that have not been turned in can be mailed to the address below:

  • The Lisle Police Department and its Community Service Officers will be directing the traffic flow during the 5K race; See ROAD CLOSURES

  • Although we will have a basic First Aid kit at each aid station, runners are expected to bring their own medical supplies to accommodate blister care, etc.
  • It will likely be a hot day so make sure you bring an ample supply of sunscreen.
  • We CANNOT distribute ibuprofen, aspirin, or any such products.
  • In the case of a medical emergency IMMEDIATELY contact one of the Race Directors (Ed Kelly, Brian Gaines or Terry Madl) or volunteers. Dial 911 if no one is available.
